Job Description

This is a casual, non-benefitted position working 15-17.5 hours per week for a 6-month term. The schedule can be flexible and will be finalized in collaboration with the hiring manager. Estimated pay for this position is $25 per hour.

Primary Duties:

  • Researching early Smith College history, especially related to race

  • Identify collections at Smith and elsewhere to more fully document the history of race at Smith College

  • Provide summary reports with necessary citations and/or copies of historically relevant documents

  • Support the College Archivist in presenting research findings in presentations or similar modes

Experience:

  • Research experience in archives and special collections, especially around early US history

  • Bachelor's degree in US history or similar humanities field required

  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity, empathy, and care in working with historical records

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing

  • Ability to work independently

  • Possess good judgment and critical thinking, especially when engaging in primary source analysis

  • A demonstrated ability to cite appropriately and craft a legible, accurate historical narratives
